An important part of the READS Lab Mission is to elevate teaching and the teacher profession by generating usable knowledge for teachers. Natalie Wexler is known as a skilled communicator who translates rigorous academic research for educators to use in their classrooms. In January, she published Beyond the Science of Reading: Connecting Literacy Instruction to the Science of Learning.

In the section: Evidence for Effectiveness of Knowledge-Building Approach, Wexler focuses on READS Lab’s longitudinal study of The Model of Reading Engagement (MORE) to demonstrate:

- Building students’ knowledge is an effective strategy to improve standardized test scores in literacy and math

- Our research shows that a systematic approach to knowledge building takes time, but produces valuable results

- These results last for years after the lessons are completed

READS Lab is extremely appreciative of Natalie Wexler for helping us reach our goal of making research accessible to teachers.
